It all started with a couple of Reddit posts by users reporting strange decolorization on their orangeiPhone 17 Proand17 Pro Maxmodels. However, more and more cases are now emerging.
Decolorized iPhone 17 Pro Max in Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue
In fact, the Cosmic Orange isn't the only color affected by the issue. Some owners report the same decolorization issue with their Deep Blue iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max as well. The issue seems to begin on the camera island, but eventually spreads across the entire aluminum body, leaving only the matte glass in the middle unaffected.
Some users, suggest that the issue is caused by the UV light outside. Many of the affected report that their iPhones began to fade after being outside in the sun for a short period.
So in case you miss the Rose Gold color, you can simply grab a Cosmic Orange one, leave it out in the sun for a bit, and you'll get a sort of unique Rose Gold iPhone 17 Pro Max. Or so certain early adopters will have you believe, we haven't experienced any issues with our review units.
It's still unclear how widespread the issue is, and we expect Apple to be replacing affected units with new ones.
